I thought there was a cool position that came up in the sectional today. Here’s the hand from declarer’s perspective. Declarer is a pro playing with a client. Matchpoints.
Double or pass seems ok to me. I think I like double but perhaps if I don’t trust partner to play the hand I’d be more likely to pass. Pass was chosen at the table
You decide it’s time for some action. What’s your bid?
Pard rates to have 5 clubs since RHO has a stiff. It looks like you've created some action. Let’s see how you do. Play starts as shown:
How do you begin?
Seems natural to pull some trumps, ruff a heart, and play some trumps. Play proceeds as follows. What do you pitch on the penultimate club? What are you envisioning the layout is that you will make it on?
Next will show the full hand so make sure you’ve thought about it all you want to before you click next page.
You have to pitch the DT to execute the guard squeeze. On the last club if E pitches a H your H is good, if he pitches a spade W will get squeezed, and if he pitches a diamond you can pick up the diamond suit.
Yes the defense should do better by just continuing hearts at trick 4, but I still think it is a cool position.
