Analysis by Lynn Berg

Unless some brave West opens 2 on this piece of dross, South will open 2. North bids 2(especially good news if it promises values) and South has to decide upon a rebid. If he chooses diamonds, North can bid his spades. South may elect to bid 3NT, however. In that case, North transfers to spades and then bids 6NT. Not knowing if the K is on side--or even where it is--South will settle for the small slam. There's no way to get to the table in NT to take the diamond finesse. However, playing in a suit, declarer(and it will be North if it's diamonds) can ruff a heart to position himself to take the diamond finesse.
