Bridge player Frederic Raphael wrote many books, and many screenplays, and won 2 Oscars. His autobiographies describe his bridge friends in some detail, including anecdotal stories of other well known bridge players  (see here for nice link where he talks about Guy Ramsey, a very well known bridge player, author and journalist, who died in 1959)
