Bidding starts (1)-1-(1)...

This came up playing matchpoints in a club game. After the hand was over, one of the opponent (a former international player) stated that I misunderstood what my bid indicates. But I don't see her logic, so I wanted to check with the BW community.

Left hand opponent opens 1, promising 3s (it's "better minor")

Partner overcalls 1

Right hand opponent reponds 1.
