The west hand was recently posted as a bidding poll/ opening bid problem.  As of this writing, the votes are 30 (70%) for opening the west hand with 2, and 13 votes (30%) for opening it 1.  It was explained that you are playing 2/1GF with 15-17 +/- 1NT, inverted minors, open 1 = 2+ s, and open 1 = 4+ s.  No strong 1, no Gazilli, and  2 - 2 waiting, the usual response except for certain hands  (no 2-2 as artificial 2nd negative)

Depending on which opening bid you choose, how do you recommend the rest of the auction should proceed?

If you open 1 (as I did at the table), the bidding will go 1 - 1 - 3 (opponents passing throughout).

If you open 2, your partner may respond 2 and you have to take it from there.

What are your recommendations and, importantly, why?

Note: as I wrote in the other poll, I had planned to do this as a series of bidding polls rather than using this format.  However, it then seemed that using that type of format likely would require numerous polls showing the same hands at different points, depending on successive bids including the choice of opening bid.
