Another one from Sports Illustrated: The Dogmeat was Hard to Swallow

Since other people are sharing, I found this tale of a couple of palookas' adventure in a big rubber bridge tournament in Las Vegas in 1966  a few years ago and shared it on the newsgroup. One of the protagonists was Ray Cave, who also wrote the article Jim Perkins shared. A few people there found it funny.

The protagaonists may have been nobodies in bridge, but they were well-known writers and editors (Ray Cave later became the editorial director of Time Inc.; Jack Olsen had a long career as a journalist specializing in crime stories, as well as writing "The Mad World of Bridge" and "Bridge is my Game" in the 1960s)
