What do you call an 8 card Heart suit headed by the QJT with no outside Ace or King?

Silly question, everyone knows it is called "Trumps"!

Everyone? We will find out later...

In the mean time here is a Director call that gave me a chuckle:

South was not mentally prepared for the 4 bid on his right and attempted an insufficient 3 bid.

I was called to the table and LHO chose not to accept the insufficient bid.

I informed South of his options: "You may not Double! You may bid 4 and there will be no further restrictions on your side or you may make any other legal bid higher then 4 or Pass but choosing any action other then bidding 4 would force your partner to Pass for the rest of the auction and may result in Lead penalties if your side end up on defense."

I polled South's options (see link below).

http://bridgewinners.com/article/view/bidding-problem-2-biw8zu64ud/?cj=422053#c422053

The most popular choice (About 40%) was a normal gamble on game with a 5 bid.

The second most popular choice (around 35%) was to Pass!

A significant minority (nearly 20%) chose the middle road of bidding 4.

What did South do at the table? turn the page and find out...

South is an elderly gentleman who used to be a strong player but age and a medical condition he suffers from have somewhat reduced his ability to concentrate.

The one area of the game he excels at is being a good partner.

In all the years He has been playing in the game I never heard him raise his voice or criticize any of his partners or opponents.

South chose to make the bid sufficient by bidding 4!

maybe he did it to avoid barring his partner or maybe he did it because he thought its the right bid (about 10% of the voters agrees), who knows.

The auction continued:

I was just about to call the paramedics since South suddenly looked very pale...

While I was reaching for my phone to call 911, North commented with a wide grin on his face, as he was putting down dummy: "I don't know how you did it but you found my suit"

You guessed it! Dummy hit the table with QJT96542

Now that's a good partner!
